RFA deals to re-sign your own players are better deals. RFA deals to try to acquire assets via offer sheets tend to be some of the worst deals imaginable.
Since the Flames neither had Brouwer, nor anyone comparable to him, in their system, it's ridiculous to compare his deal to an RFA deal made with a player on a team's own protected list.
