People are getting hung up on dollars and age. It doesn't matter whether we think this contract is value or not. Clearly the Fkames have decided Colborne is not someone that is going to be a player we want in our top 6, and weren't prepared to pay him to be a 3rd line player.
Brouwer in the other hand is some who they feel has characteristics we want on the team, and feel like he could be a top 6 player for us. Time will tell if they judged either player right, but no point keeping Joe around at any cost if you've decide he isn't what you need, regardless of cost.
