So burying him in the minors results in a $2.2 million cap hit this year and nothing next year. Buying him out saves $1 million in cap this year, but costs an extra $1 million next year.
This buyout has nothing to do with cap savings and mostly about saving the organization $1 million dollars in actual salary.
The Flames don't ever seem to skimp on salary but this also shows it's a real business and the owners won't spend money wantonly. Really wish the guy could have shown something.
