The tax argument is being way overblown around here.

Yes, taxes are lower in Florida than they are in Toronto (or Calgary)

But there is also a little thing called the exchange rate, which is currently about 1.30

$8.5M USD means you are getting paid $11.05M CDN

And yes, the exchange rate is theoretically supposed to reflect the difference in the cost of living. But in practice, it often doesn't.

And that is the case now, as it doesn't cost anywhere near 30% more to live in Toronto than Miami (probably less when you factor in health insurance).
