To me this indicates that given the options on the NJD roster (Schlemko, Sevreson etc) - the coach felt he had better offensive options for offensive zone starts.
Perhaps Chiarelli feels that he isn't getting the production from Sekera due to usage or defensive responsibility and pairing him with Larsson would free Sekera up?

Even with starting in the defensive zone, he has only 3 less pts than the team leader in scoring on D. The coach knows they suck on offense so the only way they can win games is to play defensively.
