Is that really a poor attitude?

"Hey instead of taking a $50,000 to play in league a tier below the NHL, I'll stay home, earn at least 20x that and play against just as strong if not stronger competition until I'm ready."

I understand the aversion to NHL teams not wanting to take chances on KHL flight risks, but I'm not sure it's really a character flaw.
