Ortio's contract was not prohibitive and he was only due a modest raise at best so not qualifying him tells me the team doesn't want to be stuck with a goaltender that has no place to play. A qualifier would have had to be a 1-way deal though. It could be as simple as they want him back but only if he is waiver eligible. I doubt he has a whole lot of options elsewhere in the NHL so its possible he is back to battle for the backup spot but only on a 2 way deal if he doesnt cut it,
