Not qualifying Colborne effectively does mean that the Flames would lose him for nothing because he WILL sign a contract as a UFA with another team in excess of $2.9 m. I think so long as he does not carry with him a cap hit for more than $3.0, that is a good deal that the Flames will likely make.
