That's not about how asset management works. By that logic Yakupov is still worth a 1st overall pick.
The Hamilton deal was a steal when it happened. After a rough start he put together his most productive year and is still improving from where he left off in Boston. Also signed to a reasonable deal that any NHL team would of been happy with.
Hamilton's value is much greater than what it was when Treliving fleeced Sweeney.
G.Reinhart isn't worth close to what he paid and the Oilers wouldn't be expecting that much back if he was to be traded (well maybe they would because they are the Oilers). Stock rises and drops. It doesn't stay the same even after only a year.
