The rest of the EU is going to shiv the Brits hard. They are not going to get any favourability whatsoever as a deterrent to other countries that attempt to follow suit.

I was listening to BBC radio on the drive in this morning, and one of the guys they were interviewing was talking about a rise in anti-EU sentiment throughout Europe. There seems to be a growing discontent with how Brussels stands above the local governments, and the guy flat out said the EU has to reconsider how it operates, or the entire thing could collapse.
If this is accurate, then the EU itself has to tread carefully. Even without that, for the EU to 'shiv' Britain would be counterproductive. They are still a financial power within Europe, and it would make no sense to cut off their nose to spite their face.
