I'm as unsure about the principle of the school in which my kid is enrolled being allowed to bring a gun to his workplace - as I am with the mentality of, otherwise law abiding people, being restricted from having the right to buy the firearms that they wish.
The biggest danger is the belief that we can 'legislate' these dangers out of society, no matter how 'well intentioned' these laws may be.
