And if he had been killed sooner, who would be holding Winterfell? Would Sansa have had to call on Littlefinger? It's all plot pieces. I don't think it is bad to have a one dimensional character of pure evil. We all knew his time was up, and it was fun to watch because they made you hate him so much.
