We gave serious consideration to two other players, but in the end, PLD makes too much sense for our organization. He provides size, skill, and skating up the center, and can play the wings on our top 2 lines while he develops, providing an orderly transition.
We thought long and hard about another center and a defenseman, but in the end went with the player with the combination of highest upside and sure bet to be an impact player.
