Everyone talks about finding a stop gap goalie until Gillies is ready or what it would take to acquire a young starter that fits the core but no one talks about what would happen for Gillies if we do find a young starter who fits the core. It is never bad to have lots of good goalies but I don't think it would hurt too much to trade Gillies if we are acquiring a similarly aged goalie with arguably higher upside and is ready now, like Vasilevskiy.
-Trade Gillies + one or possibly both late 2nds for Vasilevskiy
- Gives TB a goalie prospect replacement with good upside who can take over after bishop leaves and gives Calgary a young goalie who is ready to play now, but more importantly allows Calgary to keep the assets needed to move up to 3rd OA.
-Trade 6th OA + 35th + Colborne to Columbus for 3rd OA + Hartnell (if need be)
- Covers Goalie problem and fills in a big need at RW
- Next I predict that Mangiapane will impress at camp and find himself starting the year on the Flames, for at the very least a few games.
- And I believe Wideman will be moved, not sure for what, but not much, and Nakladal will be re-signed.
- Raymond gets bought out or buried
Forwards:
Gaudreau- Monahan- Pribyl
Mangiapane- Bennett- Hartnell
Frolik- Backlund- Puljujärvi
Ferland- Grant- Hathaway
Stajan, Bollig
(Puljujärvi starts with Backlund to avoid having what would essentially be a rookie line, but once he gets more comfortable will swap places with Hartnell.)
Defense:
Giordano- Brodie
Jokipakka- Hamilton
Nakladal- Engelland
Wotherspoon
Goalie:
Vasilevskiy
Ortio
(May consider finding a cheap veteran backup instead of Ortio to avoid having two very young goalies.)
