The draft started with a bang as the Rangers sent the 4th overall pick and a 2nd rounder next year for Logan Couture. Just seconds later the Rangers sent the 49th overall pick to Carolina for Dennis Wideman.
I had conversations with about 4 or 5 teams around the 4th overall, we kept coming back to Vancouver and both sides presented many different scenarios, some quite complex but in the end it was a simple picks for player type trade. The new Canucks GM made out very well in the deal and is great at negotiating.
As for Wideman, we badly needed a dman or 2. Doug and I have been going back and forth on Wideman several weeks and today I finally caved and paid the price of a 2nd round pick.
