My theory is that consciousness is like gravity. It's another dimension that can't be seen, but can be observed and defined. This didn't happen to gravity until some pretty big scientific breakthroughs, thank you Newton and Einstein. So now we really have a good grasp on gravity and how it also effects space and time. However, before then it wasn't even known, stuff just fell and when it hit the ground it stopped. The atheist description of gravity. Or the romantics description is there is this god named Atlas just holding the planet in the air. Gravity is far more magnificent than these other theories.
Human consciousness is like this as well. My theory is the brain is an organic hybrid radio that tunes into this dimension, which is your consciousness. That the ability for mankind (lady kind) as well to consciously choose to create or destroy is a mirror into what we actually come from.
When you see a child born that is mentally handicapped I believe their consciousness is in tact but the radio isn't quite tuned in properly. Much like the television show being beamed into a broken tv, the television show is still there.
There is a lot more to this theory, but I think that quantum physics is on the right track to uncovering the understanding of this dimension. Arthur C Clarke wrote a lot about this in many books and he has been uncannily correct about many things. Interstellar was an excellent example of quantum physics.
The experience of life is organic and does absolutely come to an end, but the consciousness seems to be so much greater and together the collective consciousness is amazing.
