He actually never said that digging into every single little detail is important, he said building a profile and seeing who is the right fit is what took so long. This coaching hire has taken about as long as when Feaster hired
his brother-in-law...

The reasoning was very straightforward. Ortio didn't have enough of a resume to be ready to back up, but there was a risk of him being claimed in waivers, as Berube and Poulin were. Ortio has a high ceiling and losing him to waivers would
potentially cost us a future starter.

We actually weren't the only team to keep 3 goalies on roster this year. The other team? they had the 9th best team save percentage in the NHL (.915) and were in the second round of the playoffs.
The 3 goalies thing is an example of something where the results are being overanalyzed.
