I find that when it comes to choices like this from a fan's perspective, priority number 1 seems to be that the team hire a coach that gives the other fan bases the least amount of ammunition to say negative things about the hire.

Thus the Carlyle fear. OMG, people will call it a Leafs Re-tread hire, how will I cope at the bar when I'm grabbing a drink with my Oiler buddies, or how will I manage the trolls on the interslice............I want someone else.
