Yes, most hotels that are pet friendly do not allow you to leave the dog alone in the room.
Southbark is currently $32 a day per dog, but you get a discount if you have more than one dog. My two are small and get along, so they share a kennel and it's 20% off.
When looking for dog boarding there are three basic options.
1) Kennel / run area. South Bark does this. My dogs have their own private run and then get a bunch of play time out in the fenced yard with other dogs. I like this concept, because I think for a multi-day stay, having no private time would be too much for my guys.
2) Open concept. Basically open areas and usually divided by size. They may have an option where your dog can eat / sleep in a crate. Sleep Rover and Dogohlics do this. I used Dogoholics for daycare from time to time, but I don't like the concept for longer stays.
3) Someone's home. If you do this, be sure they are licensed and insured. Some people prefer the home atmosphere, but I have one escape artist, and I am always concerned that in someone's home, a person may open a door and he would bolt out before they could stop him.
