^ Just for reference Wyshynwski also tweeted out that Daly also said that a player whose NMC expires or changes to a NTC in 2017 but the contract still has years on it also did not need to be protected.

so for example Dan Giradi's NMC changes to a NTC in 2017 and would not need to be protected. Same with Horton, Rask.
