Say you're selling something for $500. I'll email and say I'll give you $200 cash. Half the time the guy will say 'fine'. So now I've established the starting point is $200 before I've even left my house. I'll show up, and I'll start pointing out the flaws in whatever your thing is. So then I'll say, 'well, I was kind of expecting it to be in better condition' and I'll offer you $100. People will usually take it.
I always here about people bashing on low ballers. I hate them as well when I'm selling, but I just put 'low ballers will be ignored' in the ad. People low ball, though, because it works.

Yup, exactly. I don't commit to pricing until I see the thing in person.
And it's not exactly low balling either. It's simply market pricing. Kijiji is really capitalism in its purest form.
If the seller wants more for his product, he can wait till the right buyer comes along.
