Scalpers exist because tickets aren't available. The scalper risks his money betting on the concert selling out, its just a futures market like any other, no one is forced to buy tickets from anyone, if you are dim enough to think it's worth spending two grand on a ticket to see the Hip when there's probably better band playing in a bar down the road for a ten dollar cover more fool you.
I like the Hip but they are not worth more than twenty bucks, that Gord Downie has cancer is sad, he seems like a genuinely nice guy, but it doesn't make them a better band.
