I guess you could argue Germany and Japan, but it certainly took a while for the recovery to happen, and they didn't volunteer to undergo the treatment.
My issue is that if your argument is that the system is so broken that it cannot be easily fixed, and the only thing to do is just blow it up and see what rises from the ashes... it seems to me that literally
any other means you could use to ameliorate the problem is a better option. The only situation where that makes sense is if the whole structure is completely irredeemable, and unfixable. Some people surely think that's the case, but it's an extremely cynical outlook, and I don't think warranted.
