I don't know if that is a great example. Those middlemen actually facilitate getting those items to you. The value they add is tangible. Scalpers are like superfluous middleman who serve no purpose at all.
It does seem like there are better ways to distribute tickets. credit card / id checks is probably the most enforceable, albeit prone to issues. There's of course adding additional shows or the possibility of adding additional shows that could turn off scalpers from buying up an initial run of tickets.
