Skate ramps and half pipes are loud because of the fact that when installed correctly they are essentially irregularly shaped box drums that you slam with a skateboard. Neighbors on my cul de sac growing up had a huge half pipe type deal in their backyard. Some nights I could hear them and I was across the street from them. I can only imagine how crappy it was for the neighbors over their back fence.
