Trump stands for what can get him ahead, inflating his ego, and that's about it. He doesn't really flip flop, because someone who doesn't believe in anything can't really flip flop, it's more like changing positions for convenience. He lies all the time and evades answering any tough questions. And he's perhaps the single easiest individual on earth to bait, a major sign of weakness.
His supporters just love the hating Muslims and Mexicans mostly. Those are pretty much the only positions that matter to his supporters. And that's why they view him as "tough and honest", not because he exudes those qualities all the time (obviously he doesn't), but he just exudes them on those particular issues and his supporters just love him for it. He should run to the left of Bernie on everything else, I think he could win that way by stealing Bernie's base and merging it with his for the most ####ed up political coalition in history.
