That fact alone is the reason I think we should be there, not to mention that, like a lot of Muslims claim, they are not all extremists, so why not stay and fight for the good of man kind?

Because it's an uphill battle that we have no chance of winning under the current conditions. The political culture and will isn't going to allow for a victory in afghanistan, so why should canadians be sacrificing their lives, when the government they are trying to protect is not particularly different than the one that was displaced?
How do you think all the families and friends of the canadian troops lost and injured feel about you saying it's worth it even if we can't win and impact significant change?
