About 2,000 people whose residences were spared during the Fort McMurray wildfire earlier this month will be prevented from going home for several more months because of caustic ash.
Extensive environmental testing found elevated levels of pH in the ash in the soil, which could cause burns and other irritations, around nearly 600 homes in the Abasand, Waterways and Beacon Hill neighbourhoods, making them unsafe for habitation.
I can't even imagine the emotional roller coaster. Your home was spared from the fire, but you can't go home for a few more months. This after probably already preparing to go home this week.
I almost wonder if some of those people would be better off if their house was destroyed. Just in being able to claim insurance and then move on.
