Two reasons for this...
Hunting your own food shows you up close the sacrifise this animal has made for you. Not like picking up a pound of beef at the market.
Animals in the wild tend to live better than animls in captivity.
As long as you aren't hunting for horns or for the thrill of just killing something and then letting it go to waste I think it's a GOOD thing. Just respect the animal, that's all.

I agree with you 100%. I do not endorse hunting for trophy's at all. It is nice to get a big, 20-Point bull you can be assured that every bit of meat will be eaten. It's upsetting to knwo that people out there hunt just for the trophy's.
