I truly believe we're eventually going to get to a point where Canada could actually see serious ramifications from a president, so in that respect I think Canadians may actually need to care about presidential elections more than Americans, going forward, lol.
Canada and the US have always had decent enough relations in the past, but I think we've been seeing the US care less and less about that relationship as they get more and more desperate to save their own economy. I could honestly see a day where things get bad enough in the West with globalization that the US starts stomping us out a little, out of necessity and convenience.
We've seen hints of it so far under Obama, but someone like Trump could come out and go after our industries and attempt to move as much south as possible and actually significantly hurt us. I could also see the average American agreeing with and supporting it as well, as people tend to be nationalistic and only care about their own fellow citizens and Trump has a lot of "He's a business man, he's got our backs, he'll take care of us" support.
Obviously, his actual abilities are very questionable, but if that were his focus we could definitely get hurt.
