Default Volunteer SAR

So I'm thinking about getting involved in my local volunteer SAR organization. Does anyone have any experience they could lend me?

The pre=requisites for Manitoba are:

GSAR Basic (not sure about this. 20 hour course, but hard to find info on it)
ICS 100 (online course)
Standard First Aid and Level C CPR (I've had this, but it ran out so I need to update)
Proof of satisfactory Criminal Records check and Child abuse registry (no problems here)

It seems to be less demanding than a paramedic, which I took training on in Alberta prior to moving, but didn't take the final test so my training is only good in theory. I can't actually use it and would need to retake all the courses here in Manitoba. I still have a full time job but could use a lot of weekends and evenings to do training.

Any advice would be appreciated.
