I agree with RTTR. To each their own.
Some people just take pride in their lawn and the way it looks. I don't think it is neccesarily to "one up" the neighbours. They simply like looking at a nice lush, green lawn and they know it looks like that as a result of the time and effort they put into it.
Other people don't care if it is brown or green. Different Strokes for different folks....
