I think the Flames will trade his rights to avoid a potential unfavorable arbitration ruling if they can't get him signed before July 1. Can't take the risk he gets $3m-$3.9m with the team's cap situation.
That being said, Hoffman only got $2m in arbitration after a 27 goal 48 point season so that bodes well as he is a good comparable. However I still don't think the Flames will risk it. If he doesn't play ball I think he gets traded.
