Home plate is the area in front of the net that are the highest danger areas. Goalies with great sv% in those areas tend to be the actual best goalies, rather than guys that make a ton of saves from the perimeter. That's part of the reason why goalies that are on high structured teams like Anaheim or Chicago tend to struggle when they go elsewhere because they are not facing a high amount of dangerous shots, thereby inflating their save % and goals against. That's part of the reason Fasth, Scrivens, Niemi etc fall apart when placed on inferior team defenses. You would expect the save %'s to go down naturally by a bit, but they tend to fall apart in those cases.

If you have a goalie that has a high "Home Plate" save %, and you add that guy to a team with structured defense, there's a good chance you'll be vying for the cup.
