I saw the Hip at the Silver Dollar, would have probably been somewhere between 89 and 91. Complete guess when actually, cant recall if it was after RA came out or not. Small venue, probably a couple of hundred people there. Before they played arenas or the outdoor cocncerts. Best show ever. And it was a show, not a concert. Audience interaction was incredible, felt more like a bunch of friends there to see their friends play music. So much energy from the band, from Downie, from the crowd. I left that place missing a shoe and my shirt. If I could go back in time to experience a music moment, that would be it.
Few years later I was at the Hard Rock Cafe down in Eau Claire, standing with a couple of friends on the second level, watching someone sing. Cant recall who. Look beside me and theres Gord Downie, singing along. Turns out the song was something he wrote. Spent 20 minutes talking to him. Just an unbelievably nice guy.
