The answer to what Trudeau should have done was simply to wait. The Speaker would eventually have gotten tired of the NDP's little game and ordered them to their seats. Trudeau turned a protest that would have lasted a few minutes at most into an international black eye. Whatever the hyperbole the opposition parties have been flinging in the aftermath, none of it happens if Trudeau remembers he is an MP, not a princeling.
This, exactly. Just about the only person involved who has handled himself properly was the Conservative Whip. Everyone else looks dumb, and the opposition - especially the NDP - are really badly overplaying their hand.
