I would also love to see the seedier side of the Galaxy, we know it exists because we see lots of examples of where the idealized idea of the moneyless federation doesn't exist or just plain doesn't work. Where the people are scrapping by to survive by smuggling or doing bad things to upset the order of the galaxy and don't want to be cogs in the federation machine, I'd like to call it Star Trek Deep Space Occupy.

Isn't that DS9 though? They did a lot of balancing in that series when it came to seeing the war from the other side. You also got the seedier side of the universe there with the Ferengi playing a big part in the series as well.
