I have a large, south-facing backyard with several leafy trees, an expansive lawn, a deck, a garden, a chain link fence and field behind, and no visible neighbours. In the warm months, I spend many hours a week back there, pretending the rest of the world doesn't exist. Basking in the sun, drinking beer, reading, and listening to the rustling of the leaves. I sometimes muse on the fact that people go on vacation and travel a long way to enjoy a week or so in such an agreeable environment.
And I don't have an expensive house. It's just a largish plot in an older neighbourhood. You couldn't pay me to live in a neighbourhood where the houses are pushed up against each other and you can see all the yards up and down the back of the houses. I need the outdoors and I need privacy.
