Yeah, it isn't property taxes, rentals or even greedy suppliers that make it tough in Alberta (although none of those things help). The Western Canada Sedimentary Basin is a mature field, far, far from markets, with little viable egress to those markets.
New technology will help (oil sands and shale recovery, tight oil and gas plays), but there are some fundamental issues at play which make Alberta less than desirable when compared to a Marcellus gas play or even a North Dakota Bakken play.
