I pretty much agree with everything you've said. Bautista is in the wrong by going in with a slide like that. Last year it would have been fine, but everyone knows it's no longer allowed, so infielders don't try to protect themselves against it. That makes it a dangerous play.
The reason it gets called a sucker punch is because only one guy is throwing punches at that point. Scrums like that happen all the time in sports and it usually only ends in shoving. Bautista doesn't protect himself from a punch because he isn't expecting it. People keep saying Odor was just faster to punch, but when you look at the replay Bautista hasn't even made a fist by the time he gets clocked. That doesn't look like a player getting ready to fight.
Bautista should probably get a couple of games for his slide, but Odor should be suspended for at least 10 IMO.
