I have a gap wedge (52 degree's) and I've always used this for short chips but I've found that i really am all over the place with it and i used that club anywhere from ~50 yards in to chipping from the fringe so i am always adjusting how i hit it.
Should i be adding another club?

I would start chipping with short irons as well- depending on the situation, you might chip with anything from 7 iron to lob wedge. The reason why this is very beneficial is all of these clubs will give you different height and roll distance, but also doesnt require you to adjust your chip swing so drastically from one shot to the next- sure you will still slightly adjust how much backswing you have and how open/closed the face is, but not nearly as much as using only one wedge for all chips. Even very good golfers are going to have a difficult time using only one chipping club and then adjusting your chip swing/speed depending on what the shot calls for. Don't get me wrong, you can do it- just requires great feel.
