This looks pretty good to me.
I agree that someone in front of us will grab the first D off the board, my guess is Vancouver. Edmonton will trade their pick for a D and whomever they send it to (NYI/Hamonic?) will select Dubois. That will leave us with Tkatchuk which would be a nice compliment to Bennett's style.
I hope if the Flames go with a trade for a goalie it's Anderson just as you selected. He seems to slot in best for me. There's others I'm happy with as well, but I'd like to see this pulled off if possible.
Wideman needs a fresh start. I can't say I've put a lot of thought into where he could go, but perhaps it's something like Dallas where we take Niemi or Lehtonen back (after securing our bonafide starter) which allows Dallas the ability to thereafter seek another goalie. I believe Dallas' goalies have 1 year left just as Wideman does, so maybe it's just more a logistics move for both teams. We overpay for a backup for a year, but it offsets the move with Wideman all the same. Don't read into this thought too much, am just thinking out loud. But I do see Wideman on the move without much in return.
Regarding a buy out, I don't see that happening but who knows.
As a side note, I'd like to see Calgary take a flier on Sean Day in the draft. He was the guy granted exceptional status into the OHL a few years back and was slotted in as a top 5 selection for his eventual draft year. He's since fallen off the radar quite substantially, at least in respect to the hype surrounding him, however, if the Flames are looking to add to the black and blue theory, he's like 6'3 230+ lbs. Just because he hasn't continued a meteoric rise the way perhaps his size alone allowed him earlier in his career, doesn't mean he won't eventually come into form and develop at a more organic/natural pace like most D tend to. He might not be the elite player once bestowed of him, but I think he'd be a terrific sleeper pick if selected in the proper round (3rd or wherever he's currently placed by rank). It seems he might still have a lot of tools that could maybe develop a bit more over time and turn into a terrific 2 way defender. I don't necessarily know a ton about him, but I remember reading quite a bit about him when he was 14,15. He could be a good fit to our core D in a few years from what I'm reading and if he can round into form.
