I wouldn't be surprised if Treliving took some heat and that was the catalyst for letting Hartley go, but I agree that they wouldn't have fired him yet. Keeping Hartley around at the beginning of his tenure gave him some additional rope as he can now play "the coach card".
I figure he has at least 2 seasons of grace left before firing him becomes an option. The first season of his own coach will be a mulligan, but the following season, the team will need to show improvement or he might be in trouble.
