I would argue that an elite goaltender is more likely to help us compete for a Stanley cup than another elite forward would. Of course, anyone we pick at 6 has a chance of not turning into an elite forward. Just as Matt Murray has a chance of not maintaining his elite level of play.
Yes, if Murray continues to lead the Penguins through the playoffs, they won't be likely to trade him. But Jim Rutherford has made some silly decisions in the past, so there's always a chance that he could make another one. It would take a ton of balls for Treliving to trade the 6th pick away for a young goaltender (even if the trade does make sense). This whole idea is a bit of a stretch in reality, and is not likely to happen.
The Flames are probably more likely to take the conservative approach by acquiring Anderssen or signing Reimer. Hopefully Dallas picks up there play so that we can have another trading chip (their first rounder) at the draft.
