Ever since I almost got fired for taking a tip as a 16 year old bag boy at a grocery store, I've had a jaded view of it.
It annoys me how certain service occupations get tips but other ones don't just because society says so.
I will tip a waitress for outstanding service but it has to be more than just taking my order and bringing me my food. Pretty much she/he needs to be super attentive and leave me 'wowed'. It shouldn't be the customer's job to help the restaurant owner pay a server's wages.
EDIT: I don't think cabbies themselves are personally ripping me off. It just seems like the meter goes up $5 a minute. It's absurd. I just gave you $40 to get to the airport, that should be enough.
