Judge for yourself but this is what I took out of it
-Calls Dubois a real good player, can play any style of game. Hard, fast, skilled.
-Benning did bring up Tkachuk out of nowhere, called him a #1 LW
-Said there was a couple defensemen in that group too
-he's not sure the guy at #5 can step in right away
-He's not sure there's a "true #1 d-men" in this draft but Benning says there are only 8-10 "true #1 d-men" in the entire league
-He said the defense group has 1st pairing guys, they could be a nice #2
Then basically the interviewer suggests it's more realistic to draft Tkachuk/Dubois, basically puts those words in Benning's mouth. Benning didn't say that, just agreed with them.
Considering that interviews as of a week or two ago had him saying they'd prioritize a d-man outside of their top 4 players, I don't think anybody should be ruling out them taking a d-man.
Tkachuk may be #4 on their list. And they may take a d-man if Tkachuk isn't there. That's my guess based on the last few Benning interviews. I think the conclusion that some fans have reached that they'll definitely take a forward is a flawed conclusion based on those interviews but you can judge for yourself.
