I think this is a GM being proactive rather than reactive. I predicted Bob would be back in 2016/2017, but be let go halfway through the year. This move is bold, and forward thinking. Treliving now gets to hire his first head coach - something he has yet to do as a GM.

This is probably one of the main reasons. It took Brent Sutter a season to correct the defensive deficiencies from Keenan and I imagine Treliving wanted to get the system corrected now rather than later to get them playing a stronger possession game and structured defense.
If Boudreau is the target I imagine that they have spoken already otherwise this could be risky because I don't see a lot of other stellar candidates unless they want to go with a fresh face.
