Having just gone through this, I was about to buy a Samsung (a different model) but then learned about the Onkyo 790 series

I think it is great value if you are looking for a system you can grow into...it can be had for $740ish at visions, it has killer sound (google some reviews) has 3 optical inputs, is a 7.1 system and component switching (you can plug the audio and video from 3 devices into the reciever and let it do the switching). The downsides no HDMI switching (meh), it doesn't come with a DVD (meh) and it is a heavy sob.

I guarantee that it will be at the top of any list of systems in this price range
