Actually he may very well still be the first d-man taken. But Mackenzie's article had a lot of interesting tidbits on the d-men and like I was suggesting previously it looks like there is consensus on the d-man at all and where they go will depend on which team loves them.

"Chychrun was the only defenceman to be ranked in anyone's top four prospects. One scout had him at No. 4 overall. But only four of the 10 scouts surveyed had him in their Top 10; six had him ranked 11th or lower. Worth noting, though, is that of the four scouts who ranked Chychrun in the Top 10, all four viewed him as the best defenceman in the draft."

Here we can already see the volatility in the rankings. Chychrun is the best d-man for 4 of the scouts Bob talked to but isn't in the top 10 for 6 of the scouts?!? Wow. So he could still go top 5-6 if one of the teams that likes him is picking there or he could drop out of the top 10 like Cam Fowler did (that is Craig Button's latest comparable for Chychrun in terms of playing style.)

"In contrast, Juolevi’s highest rank was No. 5 overall, but nine of 10 scouts had him in their top 10. Two scouts had him ranked as the top D-man in the draft."

So only 2 scouts think Juolevi is best but he's consistently ranked in the top 10.

"Sergachev’s highest rank was No. 6; seven of 10 scouts had him in their Top 10 but only two ranked him as the top defenceman in the draft."

So 2 scouts think Sergachev is best but only 7 of 10 had him in the top 10. Interesting.

"Bean got two votes in the top 10 and McAvoy only one; Bean was viewed as the top defenceman in the draft by one scout."

Bean viewed as the top defenseman by one scout, very interesting.

"Penticton Vees' defenceman Dante Fabbro, who played for Canada at the World U-18 Championship in Grand Forks, didn't quite make the cut for TSN's Top 15, but he did get one vote in the Top 10 (No. 5) and was deemed the top defenceman by that one scout. It’s another good example of the divergence of opinion on this year's blueline prospect pool."

So Fabbro ranked #5 by one scout and is the top ranked blue liner for that scout? Wow.

Okay see this basically backs my point up from earlier this thread that the defensemen are the real wildcards here and really could go anywhere. Zero consensus on the defensemen at all. Any of Chychrun, Juolevi, Sergachev, Bean or Fabbro could go as the 1st d-man taken. Any of those guys could go top 6 IMO in the right circumstance. Maybe a defensemen doesn't go top 7 in certain scenarios. Maybe two of them go top 7. It's all going to boil down to the draft order and those teams in the 4-6 area and who they love.
