Last summer the GF and I went to the science centre for adult night.
As we rode our bikes up I noticed that another of my exact model/colour of bike was locked to the bike rack. Not much of a coincidence there, I'm sure they made a few of them.
As we pulled up, it turns out that locked up with that one, was another bike, the exact model/colour as my GF. Both pretty dissimilar bikes, so it's not like they were both bought as pairs.
Anyway, I was really hoping we'd run into our bike doppelgangers that night, but no dice.

It's pretty obvious that your bike doppelgangers were in fact future versions of you and your girlfriend, sent back to prevent a terrible tragedy (and succeeded in doing so!). Those versions of you would have had to avoid you to avoid the whole "paradox" thing.
Whenever in the future you and your girlfriend go back in time, I expect an update of this post.
